Track changes and comments feature

Track changes

Track changes works similarly to Word, with the following key features:
  • Suggestions to add text show up as green text, and suggestions to remove text show up as red and strikethrough text. Comments show up as yellow highlighted text (see below).
  • Each change is marked with who made the changes, and what time.
  • You can comment on our own or another user's tracked changes.

  • If there are track changes within a section/recommendation/PICO, it will show a track changes icon (green pen and lines).
  • You can accept/discard changes by clicking accept/discard on each individual change (using the check mark and exit [x] button), highlight a section of text and accept/discard all selected suggestions, or accept/discard all suggestions in an individual text box.

How do I turn track changes on and off?

The default state of track changes is off. You can view, comment, accept, or discard track changes without turning track changes on.

There are three ways to manage track changes:
  1. For each individual text box for an individual user, you can turn track changes on/off in the text editor menu, marked by the paper and pencil icon (see above).
  2. For all text boxes in a guideline for an individual user, you can turn track changes on and off in the "Settings" menu.
  3. For all text boxes in a guideline for all users, admins can turn track changes on and off under "Settings -> Guideline customization -> "Have track changes on as default for all authors."

Who can see my track changes in MAGICapp?

Anyone who has access to the guideline can see track changes. Track changes do NOT show in published guidelines.

What exports will show track changes?

Word export = Yes, the default is to show track changes.
PDF export = You can choose if track changes should show or not in the PDF export, under Settings -> Create, view and customize PDF -> check box "Include track changes".

Comments in text

The comments feature also works similarly to Word, with the following key features:
  • To write a comment, highlight text and then click the comment-icon.

  • Each change is marked with who made the changes, and what time.
  • Comments can be replied to, edited and deleted.
  • Currently only the person that wrote the comment can delete it. If admins would like to delete the comments that other authors have made, there is a workaround - you can modify the text highlighted by the comment: open the text box, copy that text, delete it, save your edits, then paste the copied text back in, and save your edits again.
  • If there are comments within a section/recommendation/PICO, it will show a comment icon, with the total number of comments/replies therein.

Who can see my track changes in MAGICapp?

Similarly to track changes, anyone who has access to the guideline can see comments, and and they will not show in published guidelines.

What exports will show track changes?

Comments only show up in Draft. They do not show in Word or PDF.
